Power and Control Relationships

Do you feel that you are “lesser” than your partner? Are you extra careful with what you say to them, out of fear of making them angry? Do you find you are anxious when you hear their footsteps upon arrival? Is your partner the one who decides when to spend time together, and what kind of activities to engage in? Power and Control relationships don’t all look the same, but have similar core elements: fear, uneven power differential, increasingly low self esteem. Unlike domestic violence (which is one type of P&C relationship), verbal abuse, intimidation, emotional manipulation, and gaslighting are more subtle and difficult to pinpoint.
